Luram was a Nephite military officer known for his valor who met his end in the last struggles of his people. As recorded by Mormon, during a particularly fierce battle with the Lamanites, a sorrowful defeat was suffered in which Luram, along with fellow officers Archeantus and Emron, and a great number of their choice men, were slain. This event is briefly documented in a letter from Mormon to his son, Captain Moroni, conveying the tragic news of the loss of some of the Nephites’ finest warriors (Moroni 9:2). The context of this correspondence suggests that Luram’s death occurred in the context of the Nephites’ final battles, which were marked by extreme violence and heavy casualties, sometime closely preceding the ultimate collapse of the Nephite nation. Luram’s name stands as a testament to the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought for the Nephite cause during those tumultuous times.
