Kib was a descendant of Jared, one of the principal figures in the establishment of the Jaredite nation. As the son of Orihah, Kib inherited the throne in his father’s old age, making him the second king in the Jaredite lineage. His reign, however, encountered significant familial strife when his own son, Corihor, rebelled against him. Corihor’s insurrection led to Kib’s capture and subsequent detention, an event that fulfilled the dire predictions made by the brother of Jared regarding captivity and internal conflicts within the ruling lineage (Ether 7:3-5).
Even in captivity, Kib fathered another son named Shule. Despite the challenging circumstances of his father’s plight, Shule grew up to be strong and capable. Shule’s determination and might eventually led him to orchestrate a successful campaign against Corihor, thereby liberating Kib from his chains and restoring him to the throne (Ether 7:7-9). Nonetheless, Kib’s liberation and reascension were transient, for upon regaining his authority, he ceded the kingdom to his son Shule (Ether 7:10), who later on established a period of relative peace and prosperity, endorsing the work of prophets in guiding the spiritual welfare of the Jaredite people.
