Coriantum²

Coriantum was a Jaredite born in a period of prolonged captivity, as the third generation descending from Heth, who had led a faction of the Jaredites into a protracted period of captivity (Ether 10:31). He was the son of Amnigaddah and continued his family’s unfortunate tradition by living in bondage for all his days. Despite these circumstances, he maintained the generational line and became the father of Com.

Not much is detailed about Coriantum’s life or experiences beyond his familial relationships and the condition of captivity that marked his existence. The significance of his life, as recorded in the Book of Mormon, lies in his contribution to the Jaredite lineage: it was his son Com who eventually broke free from captivity and played a significant role in the continuation and leadership of the Jaredite people (Ether 10:31). Coriantum’s mention in the genealogy presented in Ether signifies him as a link in the preservation of the Jaredite nation at a time of great trial and oppression. His endurance through adversity ensured the succession that led to the eventual liberation of his descendants from the bonds of captivity.
