Ahah was a Jaredite king, a figure within the ancient Jaredite civilization chronicled in the Book of Mormon. He was the son of Seth and ascended to the throne as the ruler over his people (Ether 1:9-10). His reign as king is characterized by its detrimental impact on the society he governed. Scriptural records state that Ahah committed significant iniquity during his tenure, actions which led to the shedding of much blood among his people (Ether 11:10). The nature and extent of his iniquities are not detailed, but the emphasis on bloodshed suggests a period of violence or harsh rule. The duration of Ahah’s reign was notably short, as it is recorded that “few were his days”. His lineage continued with his son, Ethem, who also became king. Ethem was the great-grandfather of the prophet Ether, through whom the record of the Jaredites was ultimately transmitted (Ether 1:9, 11:11). Despite the brevity of his rule and the negative connotation associated with his governance, Ahah’s place in the Jaredite lineage carries significance due to its connection to Ether, a pivotal prophetic figure within the Book of Mormon narrative.
