Aha was a Nephite military officer and the son of Zoram, who served as the chief captain of the Nephite armies during a critical period of conflict around 81 B.C. (Alma 16:5). His brother, Lehi, also served as a prominent figure in their father’s command. Demonstrating faith in the prophet Alma the Younger’s spiritual guidance, Aha participated in a strategic operation that led to a successful military engagement against the Lamanites. This operation was crucial as it resulted in the liberation of captive Nephites, who had been taken by the Lamanites following the destruction of the city of Ammonihah.
Under the leadership of his father and with the prophetic direction provided by Alma, Aha and his brother Lehi were informed that the Lamanites would cross the river Sidon. Following this divine counsel, the Nephite forces, including Aha, met the Lamanite armies east of the river Sidon (Alma 16:6). In the ensuing conflict, Aha played a role in the miraculous victory in which the Lamanites were scattered and driven into the wilderness. The success of this military action ensured that not a single Nephite captive was lost, allowing them to return and reclaim their own lands (Alma 16:8). Aha’s involvement in this event not only signifies his military prowess but also his faith in the revelations of the Lord given to prophets among his people.
