What have you noticed is the typical reaction of Book of Mormon people and those in our day when they are called to repentance?

Thomas R. Valletta

“Just as the word of God can be comforting to those who accept it, it can be discomforting—‘hard,’ ‘sharp,’ or ‘strict’—to those who reject it. This dichotomy is a prevalent theme in the Book of Mormon” (Taylor, “Word of God,” 58).

Consider discomfort with the word of God in the following passages: 1 Nephi 16:2; 2 Nephi 1:26; Jacob 2:35; Mosiah 13:7; Alma 35:15.
