Why does Moroni identify himself again?

Thomas R. Valletta

“There is something remarkable that has happened between these verses. … The Moroni of verse 13 is not the Moroni of verse 14, by which I mean, he is the same person, the same individual, but something remarkable has happened to him. All of a sudden, Moroni has a sense of mission that is not apparent in the first thirteen verses. He has received a call from God telling him what he must do with this record and what his responsibilities are. He now begins to speak with power, as if he were a prophet. We never hear the words of loneliness from him again in his writing” (Merrill, “Moroni,” 8).
