Three different calendar systems were used during Nephite history: (1) total years since Lehi left Jerusalem (Mosiah 29:44–46), (2) total years since King Mosiah established the rule of judges (3 Nephi 2:5–7), and (3) total years since the coming of Christ into mortality (3 Nephi 2:8; 8:2). Most of the western world today still measures time by the same method the Nephites adopted here: reckoning time since the birth of Christ—the meridian, or high point, of all time.
