“Many Cities Shall Become Desolate”

First, there will be three days and nights of darkness. During that time the whole face of the American continent will be changed. Whole mountain ranges will disappear and new ranges will rise. This would seem to be particularly significant for the land southward. The geography of the land southward described in the Book of Mormon before this catastrophic change is a long narrow land with a sea west, a sea south and a sea east. Argentina and Brazil, as well as the small countries associated with them, seem to have risen and become part of the land southward after this cataclysmic change took place. It is interesting that Samuel says some of these mountain ranges will be extremely high. During all of this upheaval the connecting highways will certainly be broken up and many cities will become desolate.

Now we come to a significant verse which Jesus reminds them of during his ministry among the Nephites because they had forgotten to record that it was literally fulfilled.
