Moroni’s leadership qualities as a commander began to shine forth. He prepared his people for conflict in meaningful ways using technological innovations. He used two kinds of advanced intelligence: he asked Alma to inquire of the Lord, and he sent out spies—he was a superb strategist. He inspired his people when their courage waned. He was merciful, and he was a spiritual giant, which translated into supernatural help for his people.
Thus, the advantages of the Nephites may be summarized as follows: superior technology—better clothing and armor (vv. 19, 20, 37); better intelligence (vv. 23, 30); better strategy (vv. 30, 35); inspiration by a better cause (vv. 45–47); better leadership (v. 48); and better connections with heaven (v. 50).
