This is one of the often-told and loved stories of the Book of Mormon. It is a vivid dramatization of the attributes needed to be a successful missionary or servant of the Lord. In it Ammon becomes a messiah figure-humble servant, good shepherd, hope to the distraught, protector and defender of the king’s flock.
Those who scatter the king’s sheep are properly rewarded; those who raise their arms with sword in hand have them cut off. Ammon, whose power was heaven-sent, sought no honor for himself save it were that of teaching the doctrines of his Father to King Lamoni and his people.
