All the Old Testament prophets knew of Christ and had a hope of his glory (see Jacob 4:4). They knew also, as did Alma, that the coming of the Lord “among his people” was the most important event of all events (Alma 7:7). His coming to dwell in a mortal tabernacle was to accomplish three foretold things: his miraculous ministry, his Resurrection, and the Atonement. He had the power to do all these things (v. 8) because he was a God. For those who really believed in the coming of the Son of God upon the earth, the call to repentance, given by Alma, would have been considered a prophetic warning.
