That is, Alma’s desire is that the people of Gideon have maintained their trust in and reliance upon the mercy and grace of the divine Redeemer. The power by which individuals are cleansed and purified from sin at baptism-the atoning power of Christ the Lord, given as a free gift is the same power by which individuals retain a remission of sins from day to day after baptism (see Mosiah 4:11-12, 26).
