Exercising faith in the Savior’s redemption—having faith that his saving actions do have meaning and purpose—you can look forward “with an eye of faith” and see things that the human retina cannot normally detect. The human eye picks up only a small portion of the full electromagnetic spectrum, yet we know that there are many waves and rays surrounding us; we can see the results of harnessing them (radio waves are used to operate cell phones, microwaves are used in microwave ovens, infrared light in TV remotes, ultraviolet light in tanning booths, X-rays in medical imaging, and gamma rays in cancer radiotherapy). Likewise, if you use your eye of faith you can see, understand, and harness spiritual views and powers beyond this mortal sphere. The Book of Mormon tells of those who opened the eye of faith and saw beyond earthly bounds: for example, Lehi, Nephi, Jacob, both Almas, the later Nephi, the brother of Jared, Ether, Mormon, and Moroni.
