It was almost inevitable that as Alma waded up out of the river on the west side he would find himself confronting Amlici himself, the very man who had incited the whole insurrection from the beginning. Alma felt everything was at stake and he sent a mighty prayer up to God for help. In volume two of Treasures from the Book of Mormon on page 169 the fight between Alma and Amlici is portrayed. But Alma had barely disposed of Amlici when he was confronted by the king of the Lamanites.
