As protection against the weapons and hatred of the Lamanites, the Nephite prophets taught their people the importance of obedience to the law of Moses and the necessity of faith in Christ. In essence, the message was: Clothe yourselves in the armor of God; stand, having your loins girt about with truth, having on the breastplate of righteousness, and with your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; place the helmet of salvation upon your head, the shield of faith in your left hand, and the sword of God’s Spirit in your right hand (see D&C 27:17-18; Ephesians 6:14-18).
