A Great Protector; Wielded the Sword of Laban in Their Defence; Labored in All His Days for Their Welfare; Retain in Remembrance His Name

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

From Jacob’s words, we gain a clear understanding of what draws individuals toward a leader and kindles the desire to honor the memory of that leader forever: protection, defense, service. If that leader, like Nephi, displays an enduring commitment toward the protection and defense of his associates and a life-long dedication of service on behalf of their welfare, then he becomes, as it were, unforgettable to them. We can liken our own situation to Nephi by strengthening our commitment of protection, defense, and service to our families and all others for whom we have responsibility.
