“Know Ye Not That There Are More Nations Than One”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

As part of the marvelous work and recovery of the covenant people, the Lord proclaimed, “My words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people.” The Book of Mormon is certainly a standard by which we can measure the truth and propriety of all things. It is an ensign, or a banner, to which we can look for security, stability, and divine guidance in an unstable and untrustworthy world.

Some people will object to additional scripture, remonstrating that we already have God’s words, the Bible, and we do not need any more. But the law of witnesses requires more than one testament or witness. “Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever … For I command all men, both in the east [Bible lands], and in the west [Book of Mormon lands].”
