“Deny the Holy Ghost”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
It is not that such persons deny that there is a Holy Ghost, or that they deny that the Holy Ghost ministered in the meridian of time. Some will even acknowledge that the Holy Ghost continues to minister in modern times. Rather, they “deny the Holy Ghost” in the sense that they reject the restored gospel and thus do not allow themselves access to the Spirit’s influence or power. They teach with their own learning and thereby do not enjoy the powerful but peaceful spiritual accompaniment that could be theirs. As Nephi would soon explain, the Holy Ghost will give us utterance and will teach us all things that we should do and say, if we seek the Lord in faithfulness (see 2 Nephi 32:3-8).
