Jacob shifts his subject to this land, the Americas. It appears that he is quoting but does not give his source. Perhaps the angel told him what God had said. Even if it is a paraphrase, it does not correlate with the Isaiah passages he had quoted the day before. God had said the Gentiles would be blessed in the Americas. America will be a land of liberty and there will be no kings in the land.
Continuing to quote God, Jacob said God will fortify this land against all nations, and whoso fights against Zion (America) shall perish (vv. 12–13). The Lord, the king of heaven, will be the king of this land so that his covenants may be fulfilled. To bring this about he must destroy the secret works of darkness and abomination (vv. 14–15).
Still quoting, we are given an important insight into the identification of the great and abominable church. It is not an organization per se, but those from whatever lineage, affiliation, or gender that fight Zion (v. 16). To bring about his purposes, the Lord will afflict the seed of the Nephites by the hand of the Gentiles, but will soften the hearts of the Gentiles that they will be like fathers to the Nephites (vv. 17–18). For this they shall be blessed. These concepts seem to be based again on Isaiah 49:22–23. Jacob concluded his quoting with the promise of America being the choice land above all other lands (v. 19). It will be interesting to find the complete sources of these great promises.
