“Because of Their Iniquities Destructions, Famines, Pestilences, and Bloodshed Shall Come Upon Them”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

The consequence of their sins, especially the sin of killing nature’s God, is that the forces of nature would be unleashed upon the Jewish nation in the form of “destructions, famines, pestilences, and bloodshed.” For example, a devastating famine swept across the land a few years after Jesus’ death (Acts 11:28). The Jewish historian Josephus wrote that a war with the Romans a generation after Jesus resulted in more than a million Jews losing their lives or being carried off to slavery and scattered among other nations. 27
