Buy Wine and Milk Without Money; Let Your Soul Delight in Fatness

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

The theme of gospel blessings being free is found elsewhere in the scriptures. In this instance, Jacob is quoting Isaiah 55:1–2. Compare also 2 Nephi 26:25 and Alma 1:20. The Savior dispenses His atoning blessings without charge, requiring only a broken heart and a contrite spirit (see 3 Nephi 9:20). As an extension of this thought, we remind ourselves that this life is the time to prepare to meet God (see Alma 5:28; 12:24; 34:32). We need time to rest and relax. We need a plan on how to use our time and our temporal assets. We need not live a life of guilt wondering if we have done enough. The bottom-line question of conscience is this: Do we spend our time and money on what matters most? Do we invest our hearts and souls in the things of the Lord—which He dispenses free of charge to the faithful and obedient of Zion?
