There are those who rebel at the thought of a resurrection and the prospect of a life after this. Jacob tells us here what the consequences would be but for the redemption of the body from the grave. Our spirits would have become the subjects of the fallen angel. They would have been like unto him. They would have become devils, and messengers of Lucifer, shut out from the presence of our heavenly Father for ever. (v. 9) But because of the atonement, death and hell shall deliver up the dead. (v. 10) On the other hand, Paradise must deliver up the spirits of the righteous, and the grave their bodies, and these will be reunited in a state of immortality, with a perfect knowledge. (vv. 12, 13)
"Temporal Death" (v. 11) means the grave; "spiritual death" is the existence in hell. (v. 12)
