Mormons believe that at the time of the Great Judgment, the spirits of all people will be reunited with their bodies. This physical resurrection is a gift for all that is given solely on the merits of Christ’s suffering and resurrection; all people will spend eternity with a perfected body that is free from death and disease. An additional gift of salvation is also available to those who have lived faithfully and received atonement for their individual sins. Those who attain this spiritual gift will be able to live in the fullness of God’s presence forever. Thus, Mormons make a distinction between immortality (the gift of physical resurrection that is available to all people) and eternal life (God’s gift to those who strive to obey his commandments and accept his love).
