Jacob apparently finishes telling us what the angel had told him and turns to the written text of Isaiah (v. 14). These words seem to be a combination of several prophecies. The Messiah setting himself “again the second time to recover” his people is quoting Isaiah 11:11 (2 Nephi 21:11). The manifesting of himself in great power unto the destruction of their enemies (vv. 14–15) is apparently a paraphrase or partial quote of the same prophecy Nephi quoted earlier (1 Nephi 22:15–17). These verses regarding the Second Coming of Christ are some of the “many plain and precious things taken away from the book” through the great and abominable church (1 Nephi 13:26–28).
